The Pind:

Pind, in Punjabi, literally translates to Village. The state of the Punjab consists of numerous districts, which themselves are further divided into Zones or Tehsil’s. Each Tehsil contains many Pinds or Villages. The Pind carries a huge emotional attachment, both for resident Indians and those that are now living abroad. Often the birthplace of their forefathers, there is an associated rich history and therein a unifying bond that unites individuals wherever they maybe. The childhood stories of growing up in the Pind, communal living, strong family ties, gatherings at festivals (Mela), are today romantically captured in the stories of elders and traditional folk songs.

The structure and focus of the Pind is changing – the art print captures an early morning water collection scene. As the sun rises, women from each household, walk out to the fields, to collect water from the traditional well. Often accompanied by their youngest children, the women complete their chores, and discuss the latest village happenings.
